The club had the privilege of welcoming Ben Smith last Tuesday, as he ran the club’s marathon course as part of his 401 challenge ‘world record attempt’. Ben is planning to run 401 marathons in 401 consecutive days until October next year around the UK for charity. The Ashford and District course was number 57 in his mammoth record attempt as club members supported Ben by running the 26.2 miles alongside him.
Two club members went to East Sussex to compete in the Beckley 10k on Sunday. A challenging run along the quite lanes of this pretty village, the course was hilly but with a downhill fast finish. Christine Costiff ran an excellent race to finish as the 2nd Vet50 lady with a time of 45:51 and 24th overall. Nigel Costiff came home in a time of 58:07. Great runs in their first events for the club!
Meanwhile Anthony Brown showed no signs of tiredness from his personal best in the Dublin marathon the previous week as he powered home to another pb, this time in the Deal Castle 5 mile race. Anthony knocked two minutes off his previous best with a time of 32:12 and 18th place. Rhian Shrimplin came home in 79th place in a time of 38:52, with Stu Nunn finishing in 41:25.
