Ironman Weymouth 70.3 – Sunday 17th September 2017
Dean Bracken completed the Weymouth Ironman 70.3 in a time of 5hrs:55m:41s, the event, commonly known as ‘Half Ironman’, consisted of a gruelling 1.2 mile sea swim, a 56 mile bike ride and a 13.1 mile run to complete the course in 679th position overall. Bracken will now be focusing on competing in the full Ironman in Austria next year.
Oliver Fisher 10k – Sunday 17th September 2017
In preparation for the upcoming cross country season, Jon Wells came home victorious winning the Oliver Fisher 10k in a time of 40m:53s. The challenging 2 lap off road route in and around Capstone Farm Country Park, Gillingham proved to be a difficult test with some steep inclines throughout the course.
Richmond RUNFEST 2017 – Saturday & Sunday 16th/17th September 2017
Becky Hodgson completed the flat and fast Kew Gardens 10k as part of the Richmond RUNFEST weekend, finishing in a personal best time of 1hr:01m:45s. The following day, the Richmond Half Marathon saw Anthony Brown and Rhian Shrimplin compete for the club. Rhian Shrimplin finished in a personal best time of 1hr:44m56s, whilst Anthony Brown, returning from injury, finished in 1hr:46m:24s.
Ashford Parkrun & Great Run Ashford – Saturday & Sunday 16/17th September 2017
Ashford & District runners dominated the top ten finishers at this week’s Parkrun with Trevor Kay winning the event in a time of 17m:55s followed by Julius Samson in 18m:58s with Paul Moses in 19m:08s taking third spot. Scott Lynch was hot on his heels in 19m:12s (4th) and Mark Attenborough crossed the line in 20m:12s (9th). Keith Haynes continued his good form finishing in 20m:30s (11th) with Stuart Nunn in 22m:03s (27th) and Terry Sellen in 22m:04s (28th). James Chapman finished in a personal best of 22m:50s (35th) with Will Whittington in 24m:35s (64th) and Jeremy Chambers 33m:08s (168th).
Meanwhile around the country, in a warm up for his Ironman event, Dean Bracken completed the Weymouth Parkrun in 29m:19s whilst Jon Wells narrowly missed out on winning his 2nd event of the weekend, finishing 2nd by 8 seconds in a personal best time of 18m:39s at the Maidstone event. Gary Sage also competed for the club and finished in a time of 23m:04s, 52nd overall.
It was a family affair at the Great Run Ashford on Sunday as Dan Green won the 5k event in a time of 18m:32s whilst son, Tom Green, won the 2km event in a time of 08m:01s. Julius Samson also finished 3rd in the 5k event in a time of 22m:30s.
