The club had a number of excellent performances on Sunday in the Ashford & District 10k, which was run in blustery conditions. The race takes in the quiet lanes of Westwell on a challenging undulating course with a fast downhill finish. In a field of over 600 runners, Christine Costiff ran an excellent race to win the 1st female Vet50 category in a time of 44:34, and was joined in the prize winning by Paul Moses, who put in another strong performance to finish as the first male in the Vet50 category, and 25th overall in a time of 39:31. Chris Valdus, currently training for the London Marathon, was the highest placed club runner as he showed his class coming home in 10th place overall and the 3rd Vet40 in 37:41. Next in was Daniel Green who finished in 17th place overall and the 3rd Vet45 in 38:43, closely followed by Chris Boyce in 20th place in 38:59, and Jonny Wells in 24th place in a time of 39:26.
The club’s ladies team had a successful race as they won the ladies team prize. Together with Christine Costiff, Gill Pragnell came home in 45:15, and Rhian Shrimplin had a strong race as she ran a PB in a time of 47:04. Danyel Giles, who followed up her PB in last week’s parkrun with another excellent run, despite suffering from an injury. She came home in 47:22, just missing out on a PB by 4 seconds.
