Ashford & District RRC 5 & 10 Mile Race – Sunday 28th October 2018

A&D put on a spooky spectacle on Sunday, which saw 374 runners descend upon

Towers School to compete in the club’s 5 & 10-mile race. Runners, marshalls and supporters adopted the event’s Halloween-theme, with many dressed in ghoulish attire. One hundred and eighty-two runners completed the 5-mile race, with Amy Old claiming 1st prize in a time of 35:53. Of the 192 runners that covered the 10-mile course, Angelo Pieris was 1st over the finish line in a time of 1:00:58. Ashford & District RRC’s own Paul Ridley achieved a personal best time of 1:08:06. Canterbury Harriers claimed the Team Prize. To mark the first running of the event, the ladies of Medway Fit Club were awarded a Spot Team Prize for running in striking fancy dress.

Somerhill School, Tonbridge, Cross Country (event 2) – Saturday 27th October 2018

A&D go from strength to strength in the KCAA XC champs

A&D ladies were on impressive form at the hilly Somerhill course. Becky Macey led the ladies home in 23rd place with a time of 20:45, putting her in 9th place in the Senior Women’s Championship. Chris Costiff battled through illness, coming 64th overall in a time of 23:20 and leading the W55 standings. Elodie Paviot continued on strong form, taking 69th place with a time of 23:37. Gill O’Connor finished in 23:59 and is now 3rd in the W55 table. Claire Green (25:16) and Sandi Mortimer (26:27) ensured a strong placing in the ‘6 to score championship’. A cross country debut for Lisa Jones, with a time of 28:41, secured the championship placings. A&D are currently placed 12thoverall in the ‘3 to Score’ league and 8th in the ‘6 to Score’.

Jon Pearce (37:39) led the men’s team home in 45th place overall, followed by Trevor Kay (38:07) in 53rd place. An inspired run by Jon Wells (39:12) followed by Dan Green (39:15) and Tomasz Latala (39:24), in 70th, 71st and 73rdpositions respectively, guaranteed a 6th place on the day and 6th overall in the Men’s Senior table. Scotty Lynch (42:02) showed his Cross Country experience in 117th, which places him within the top 10 in the V50’s table. Rob Barton (42:16), Paul Moses (42:23), Paul Ridley (43:02), Julius Samson (43:34), Richard Baker (44:11) and club cross country captain Adrian Moody (44:53) completed the scoring in the ‘12 to Score’ league. A strong run from Mark Attenborough (45:12) and determined finishing from Carl Ireland (45:30) and Mark Harrison (47:27) give A&D 3rd place in the ‘12 to Score’ championships.

Beachy Head Marathon – Saturday 27th October 2018

Two club members completed the gruelling Beachy Head Marathon through the South Downs National Park. The course included 300 steps, 14 gates and numerous steep inclines; extra safety measures were in place following the appearance of a large cliff-top crack just days before the event. Rik Holden crossed the finish line in 3:20:59; Steve Hickman finished in 5:06:51, marking his 151st marathon to date.

Ashford 5th Birthday Parkrun – Saturday 27th October 2018

On its 5th birthday, Ashford Parkrun saw several A&D runners claim personal best times and awards. Keith Haynes finished in 3rd place overall, in a personal best time of 19:48. Terry Sellen (22:58) collected an award for Ashford’s Inspirational Parkrunner of the Year 2017-18. Shaun Snowwolf-Harris demonstrated impeccable timing whilst pacing runners for a time of 27:00, finishing the course in exactly that time. Emma Jenkins achieved a personal best time of 31:51 and was awarded Improved Parkrunner of the Year 2017-18, marking her return to form after an injury last year.
