The North Down’s Way
In hot weather this weekend, Two of A&D’s stalwarts Mark Attenborough and Richard Baker took on the 5,600 feet of hills and trails of the NDW 50 miles, running from Farnham in Surrey to Knockholt Pound on the outskirts of Greater London. Even though Attenborough’s plans did not all go as he expected, he finished in an excellent time of 11:38:24, Baker was not too far behind in a time of 12:03:49. A tremendous achievement following several months of hard training.
Saxon Shore Half
Five club members completed the Saxon Shore half marathon, with its tough, long climbs. Michael Hill was first home for the club, in a great time of 1:29:25. Next was the ever-improving Hugh Scarlin in 1:42:33, followed closely by Robin Butler, 1:47:02, in his first road race for 3-4 years. Peter Buckley was next to finish in 2:17:04, then Sarah Taylor, clocking 2:32:59.
Bedgebury 10 mile
Paul Moses put in another first class performance at The Bedgebury 10 mile trail race, completing the undulating course in a brilliant 1:12:08, 7th overall and 3rd vet 55. The youthful Christine Costiff was next in 1:21:13, achieving a brilliant 3rd lady and 1st in her age group. Lucy Johnstone finished in 1:56:57. taking a whopping 20 minutes off her PB.
Ashford and other parkruns over the last two weekends have seen a number of fantastic runs and times including, Kieran Hodges, 18:45, 11th place, Steve Hodges, 14th place, plus a PB; Dan Green, 19:19 (Folkestone), Helen Weeden, 26:03 and 1st in her age group, Club President Ann Fidge with 29:04, first in age group (65-69) for the 3rd week in a row, and Holly Forrest with a time of 33:55.
