BATTLE OF PASSCHENDAELE CENTENARY CHALLENGE MONDAY 31st JULY 2017
In this event to commemorate 100 years since the start of one of the biggest battles of the First World War, three of the clubs members took on the challenge of running as many miles as possible in six hours.
Mark Attenborough showed true determination on his move into ultra running, winning the event, running 35 miles in 5hrs: 51m: 27s. Seasoned marathon runner Helen Weeden completed 26.4 miles in 5hrs: 46m: 36s and Becky Hodgson ran her furthest distance to date completing 22 miles in 5hrs: 20mins: 12s.
A VERY BRITISH CHALLENGE TUESDAY 1ST AUGUST 2017
In a similar challenge also held at the undulating Kings Wood course in Challock, Jon Wells completed his first run at marathon distance or above, running a total of 31.1 miles in 5hrs: 54m: 28s finishing in 6th place overall.
BEDGEBURY PINETUM SUMMER SERIES 5k WEDNESDAY 2ND AUGUST 2017
Following on from Tuesday’s success Jon Wells produced another great performance finishing in 6th place and 1st Vet 40 with a time of 20m: 50s on a tough course.
PERTH HALF MARATHON 6th AUGUST 2017
Whilst on holiday in Australia Scott Lynch completed the Perth Half Marathon as part of his autumn marathon training. Lynch finished the race which is a state championship event in 56th place in a time of 1hr: 29m: 4s.
MOUNT EPHRAIM 10k 6th AUGUST 2017
Jon Wells finished off an impressive week of running on the scenic and hilly course around the lanes surrounding Mount Ephraim gardens, finishing in 11th place in a time of 41m: 21s. Ricky Hickman was next home for the club in 49m: 37s followed by Steve Hickman who finished in 56m: 35s.
ASHFORD PARKRUN 5th AUGUST 2017
There was a large turnout at the Ashford Parkrun this week with Jon Pearce first home for the club finishing in 2nd place and setting a new personal best of 17m: 22s. Daniel Green was next home in a time of 18m: 14s coming second in his age category and running a seasons best. Robert Barton put in a strong performance finishing in 19m: 5s. Mark Attenborough ran 20m: 40s with Robert Carpenter close behind in 20m: 43s. Terry Sellen finished in 22m: 9s, Stuart Nunn in 22m: 34s, Ricky Hickman in 22m: 52s, Rod Kessack in 22m: 54s and Edward Rodger in 23m: 18s. Simon Jackson produced a new personal best of 24m: 5s. Claire Green was the first lady home for the club in 24m: 36s, followed by Jaclyn Kay in 24m: 51s. Jeremy Chambers finished in 37m: 35s, John Fidge in 44m: 21s, Ann Fidge in 44m: 50s and Julie Foster was this weeks tail runner coming home in 49m: 19s.
The club also had some tourists at other Parkruns across the country. Mark Carlton ran in the Lanhydrock Parkrun, he finished in a time of 26m: 14s and came first in his age category. At the Warrington Parkrun Hazel Turner was the 5th lady finisher in a time of 22m: 36s. Jon Wells came in 3rd at the Hoblingwell Parkrun in a time of 20m: 19s. Closer to home, Ryan Edwards completed the Folkestone Parkrun in 19m: 44s.
GREAT RUN LOCAL 6th AUGUST 2017
Junior runners Tom and Chloe Green both put in strong performances at the popular 5k event. Tom achieved a new personal best of 21m: 24s and Chloe was the first female finisher in 27m: 52s.
