Brighton Marathon Sunday 9th April 2017
Ashford & District road running club had a large number of runners taking part in the popular Brighton Marathon on Sunday, with some impressive performances and several making their debuts at the marathon distance. Starting at Preston park, the fast course took the runners past such Brighton landmarks as the Royal Pavilion, Brighton Dome, the i360 and Brighton pier, with the finish on Maderia Drive. In very hot conditions, not ideal for fast times, first home for the club was, Julius Samson who came home in a time of 3hrs:23m:07s, followed in by Ian Harrington who ran a new personal best in 3hrs:40m:22s. Danyel Carter ran a sub 4 hour personal best to qualify for a good for age place at the 2018 London marathon with her 3hrs:44m:58s finish, with Paul Brasington coming home in the first of his two marathons in two week’s in a time of 3hrs:54m:14s, and Glenn Holiday finishing in 3hrs:58m:18s.
Mark Carlton trimmed an impressive 1 hour from his personal best, finishing in 4hrs:16m:54s, Claire Green finished in 4hrs:18m:38s, Frances Hunt finished in 4hrs:25m:40s. Stu Nunn trimmed 32 minutes from his personal best coming home in 4hrs:28m:13s, Terry Sellen finished on debut in 4hrs:31m:44s, Neil Buckley in 4hrs:34m:32s, Steve Hickman in 4hrs:39m:44s, Rod Kessack in 4hrs:57m:08s, Sue Reader in her debut marathon finished in 5hrs:00m:54s, Andrew Smith finished in 5hrs:25m:37s, Steve Wellsted in 5hrs:48m:28s and Paul Bailey in 5hrs:54m:24s.
Paris Marathon Sunday 9th April 2017
Sunday also saw three of the clubs runners travel to France to take part in the Paris marathon, which was, like the Brighton marathon, run in very hot conditions, making the race a very tough challenge for the runners. First home for the club was Anthony Brown, who despite running with a thigh injury ran an impressive time of 3hrs:43m:56s, with Rik Holden finishing in 4hrs:17m:13s, and also saw Helen Weeden complete the race in 5hrs:09m:16s.
Titanic 10k Sunday 9th April 2017
Jon Wells took part in the Titanic 10k in Belfast on Sunday. On a flat fast course and in windy conditions, Wells finished in a time of 39m:59s.
Ashford Parkrun Saturday 8th April 2017
At the latest Ashford parkrun, Dan Green was first home for the club, with a 3rd place finish in a time of 18m:15s, followed by Mark Attenborough who ran a personal best, coming home in 6th place in 19m:39s, with Ryan Edwards close behind in 7th in 19m:41s,. Robert Carpenter was 10th in 20m:30s, and Paul Moses 8th in 19m:42s Richard Baker 11th in 20m:34s, Pat Butler 12th in 20m:37s, Hazel Turner was 2nd female home in the race with a new personal best in 21m:45s, William Whittington was 47th in 24m:31s, John Fidge was 1st MV65 in 25m:58s and Julie Foster finished in 31m:23s.
