The club had a large turnout for the Brighton marathon on Sunday. Richard Baker had a marathon debut to remember as was the first of the club’s runners home with a fantastic performance in a time of 3:14:47. Alan Kirby and Keith Haynes also had very strong runs on their debuts at the distance, with Alan coming home in a time of 3:18:41, and Keith ran a well paced race to finish in a time of 3:26:09. Rik Holden, despite only having run the Paris Marathon two weeks before, came home in a time of 3:28:46, Ian Harrington, on debut, ran an excellent race to finish in 3:40:19, just ahead of Dexter Hogben who finished in 3:44:30.
Rachel Grout was the first lady from the club to finish as she ran a fantastic time of 3:53:11, finishing just ahead of Dave Hunt who came home in 3:53:15, and Steve Hickman, running his 128th marathon finished in 3:53:58. Rhian Shrimplin came home in a time of 4:06:00 in her debut marathon, Helen Weeden trimmed 17 minutes from her personal best as she finished in 4:15:38, Amanda Bashford ran a time of 4:18:28, and Eddie Rodger came home in 4:29:23.
Danyel Giles, who is also running the London marathon next Sunday, finished in 4:42:51, Stu Nunn, despite having his training interrupted by injury came home in 4:59:53, Kirsty Farrant on debut ran 5:04:31, Andrew Smith ran 5:04:45 and Steve Wellstead came home in 5:18:50.
