Last Saturday saw three of the club’s runners take on the challenge of the Country to Capital Ultra race. This was the first race on this year’s ultra race calendar and is one of the premier ultra races in the country. The runners have to run a course of 45 miles starting in Wendover and after running through the Buckinghamshire countryside, takes the runners into London along the Grand Union towpath, and a finish in Little Venice. Anthony Brown, taking part in his first ultra race, had a debut to remember as he came home in 91st place in a time of 7:09:35 in a field of 350 runners. Edward Rodger was next in, as he came home in 244th place in a time of 8:57:31, and Helen Weeden finished in 270th place in a time of 9:35:23.
Amanda Bashford continued her busy year of races as she completed the Ultra distance of 30 miles in the Ranscombe Winter Challenge, and taking her tally of marathons and ultra races to thirty eight. Contending with a muddy course and some tough climbs, Amanda completed the course in 6:25:00.
