Sunday saw a large turnout from the club’s runners for the 30th anniversary race of the Givaudan 10k, and included some excellent performances. Despite having to contend with heavy rain during the race in a field of over 1000 runners, Robert Latala produced a personal best performance in his first race for the club to hold off the challenge of Dominic O’Mahoney of Invicta East Kent and finish 2nd behind the winner, Abel Tsegay of Invicta East kent. There was just 1 second between 2nd and 3rd place, as Robert finished in a time of 32:48. Next in for the club was Daniel Green who finished 29th (7thM40) in 37:10, followed by Dean Bracken who ran a personal best time of 38:01 in 47th place, Paul Moses who came home in 38:32 in 59th (8thM50). Robin Butler produced a strong performance to finish 60th in 38:34(19thM40), Scott Lynch finished 74th (22ndM40) in 39:21, with Pat Butler coming home as the 2nd M60 as he finished strongly in 91st place in 39:39.
Richard Baker dipped under the 40 minute mark for the first time as he broke his personal best finishing 99th in 39:50, followed in by Keith Haynes who knocked 22 seconds from his personal best as he finished 112th in 40:14, and Mark Attenborough who also ran a pb as he came home in 139th in 41:24. Kevan James finished in 42:10, Danyel Giles once again broke her pb as she came home as the 10th lady in a time of 43:50, Gill Pragnell finished 6th in her age category in 44:08, with Brad Bunk running a pb in 44:37. Paul Brasington finished in 45:11, Terry Sellen knocked 4 minutes from his pb finishing in 46:26, Viki Pragnell in 46:36, Mark Carlton 47:58(pb), Stuart Nunn 48:07(pb), John Fidge 50:48, Matt Skipper in 51:29, Simon Jackson in 53:22, Andrew Smith in 54:51, Sue Reader in 57:15, Steve Wellsted in 57:16 and Julie Foster in 57:33. Paul Bailey ran 59:08 in his debut 10k, Kirsty Farrant finished in 59:47, Anne Fidge was 6th in her age category in 1:00:11, Anne Healy ran a pb in 1:02:34 and Richard Holden ran 1:12:32.
Away from the club’s large turnout for the Givaudan 10k, other members of the club were racing in various parts of the country. Jon Wells went for the longer distance on Sunday as he completed the Oxford Half Marathon. Jon ran a superb race to finish 300th in a field of over 7,000 runners in a time of 1:29:23.
Steve Hickman completed his 131st marathon on Sunday as he ran the Isle of Wight marathon. Despite not being fully fit, Steve battled on one of the more difficult marathon courses to come home in a time of 5:04:00.
Rhian Shrimplin joined 16,000 runners at the Royal parks half marathon on Sunday on a course that takes in 4 of London’s royal parks; Hyde Park, Green Park, St James Park and Kensington Gardens. Rhian finished in a time of 1:51:39.
