Jon Wells joined 57,000 other runners on the start line for the world famous Great North run on Sunday. The half marathon distance of 13.1 miles took the runners from the start at Newcastle Upon Tyne, across the Tyne Bridge into Gateshead, South Tyneside and onto a seafront finish in South Shields. In hot conditions along the course, Jon finished in 948th place in an excellent time of 1:31:54.
Scott Lynch was the first of the club’s runners home in the Wingham 10k on Sunday in hot conditions on a tough and undulating course around the quiet lanes around Wingham near Canterbury. Scott finished the course in 20th place, and 4th in his age category, in a time of 40:06, followed in by Mark Carlton who finished 112th in 51:49. Sue Reader finished 200th in 1:00:07 and Ann Fidge finished 3rd in her age category in 1:01:37.
Christine Costiff finished as the 2nd lady home and 28th overall in the last Rye summer series 5k on Friday, as she came home in a time of 22:32.
At Bodiam castle in East Sussex, two club members took part in the Bodiam Castle Sprint Triathlon on Sunday. The sprint triathlon consisted of a 450 meter open water swim, a 21.25k distance on the bike and a 6k run. Dean Bracken finished in 40th place overall as he completed the swim in 8:34, the bike course in 46:23, and the 6k run in 19:43, giving him a overall time of 1:16:56. Christine Costiff was 102nd overall, the 11th lady and 1st in her age category as she completed the swim in 10:09, the bike course in 49:03 and the 6k run in 22:20, with a overall time of 1:23:20.
