At the Hackney Half Marathon last Sunday, Orla Quearney ran an excellent race in very tough conditions. On the hottest day of the year so far, Orla finished the 13.1 mile course, which starts and finishes at Hackney Marshes and has a large field of over 13,000 runners, in a time of 2:07:02. Orla is currently in training for her marathon debut in the Amsterdam Marathon in October. Kate Williams made her debut for the half marathon distance in the race coming home in a time of 2:19:32.
Steve Hickman dropped down to the shorter distances last Sunday as he took part in the Alton 10 mile race. Running on an undulating course, Steve finished in a time of 1:34:18.
At the Ashford Park run last Saturday, several of the club’s runners were getting back to running shorter distances after their marathon exploits. First home for the club was Daniel Green, who finished in 3rd place in a time of 18:28, followed in by Scott Lynch who finished in 19:18 and a 6th place finish. Robert Carpenter was next home, as he finished in 7th place and a time of 20:03, Richard Baker was 10th in 20:38, Keith Haynes finished 16th in 21:23, and Mark Attenborough was 51st in 25:11.
