Late last week the club was informed that the race headquarters at Sandyacres would not be available to use for the event.
This has necessitated a change of venue for the race as well as amendments to the course – most notably the location of the race headquarters, the start and the finish. The race will now start and finish at Charing School with car parking, refreshments and registration facilities on site at the school.
The new address for the race HQ and start/finish is:
Charing School, School Road, Charing TN27 0JN
We are very grateful to the Head Teacher and staff of the School for agreeing to accommodate us at such short notice. We are also grateful to Course Measurer Rob Bright who has spent many hours trying to reconfigure the course.
So, both races will now start in School Lane, just outside the School and both will finish in the School grounds. Because of the change of route there is a new section of the course, with a small loop to the north of the village that must be completed one and a half times before joining the existing marathon route and heading towards Westwell. In addition, marathon runners will have to complete a dogleg section on the course to ensure the full 26.2 miles is completed.
This revised route is for this year only and the race will return to its original route – and start, finish and race headquarters in 2017.
On the plus side, the new route does offer better transport options, with Charing Station just a few minutes walk away and plentiful on-site car parking.
Due to these late changes, we could not post out race packs last week and so numbers and timing chips will now be waiting for you to collect on the morning of the race, with the race headquarters open from 7.00 am.
Race instructions for the event will be sent by email. We hope these late changes won’t affect your enjoyment of the race – and if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us.
For friends, family and colleagues, there will be entries available for both races on the day.
