At the Lydd 20 mile race on Sunday, the club had a number of runners using the race to prepare for their forthcoming marathons in April. On a very flat and fast course around the quiet lanes of Lydd, several club members had strong performances. First home for the club, and continuing his excellent improvement in recent months, Paul Moses came home as the 2nd Male Vet 50, and 32nd overall in a time of 2:17:42. Richard Baker finished in 55th place in 2:24:48, closely followed by Rik Holden finishing in 60th place in 2:25:40. Mark Attenborough knocked 3 minutes off his personal best, finishing in 82nd place and a time of 2:31:16, Dean Bracken slowly coming back from injury finished strongly in 96th place in 2:33:08, Ian Harrington on his debut at the 20 mile distance came home in 103rd place in 2:34:51, and Keith Haynes finished in 118th place in 2:38:42.
There were debuts at the distance for Rachel Grout who finished in 2:50:57, Deborah Hainsworth finishing in 3:21:00, Andrew Smith in 3:35:49, and Jeremy Chambers in 4:01:53.
Starting at the same time as the Lydd 20 mile race, four of the club’s runners took part in the Lydd Half marathon. Alan Kirby put in a very strong performance as he ran a personal best, finishing in 24th place and a time of 1:29:30. Rosie Day had a debut half marathon to remember as she finished as the 12th lady in an excellent time of 1:42:32. Claire Green, making her debut race for the club finished in 1:55:39 and Sue Reader ran a personal best, as she came home in 2:05:40.
Stuart Nunn ran on the iconic Silverstone Race track in the Silverstone Half marathon on Sunday, as he prepared for his marathon debut at the Brighton Marathon in April. He came home in a new personal best time of 1:57:00.
Steve Hickman and Amanda Bashford only had a short rest from their previous week’s marathons, as they completed the Lamer Tree marathon in Dorset. On another tough hilly off road course, Steve completed his 126th marathon in 5:07:36 and Amanda came home in 5:08:24 in her 49th marathon.
