Mike Davies represented A&D at the South Counties Veterans Athletics Club multi-terrain championships. Mike’s time of 43:04 for the 10k gave him first place in the M70 category and his age graded performance of 89% took the prestigious SCVAC Ted Pepper Memorial Trophy. On a good day for the club, Lesley Clancy was 1st female in a time of 47:44, a great run after a long spell of injury and difficult recuperation. The strong showing by A&D was completed by Andrew Noble in 6th place overall and 3rd V55 with a time of 40:36.
The Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park offered a fast 10k course for A&D runners to take advantage of. Trevor Kay was not far off his personal best time with 35:49 earning him 9th place overall. Strong as ever, Scott Lynch showing good form pushed through for a time of 38:15 taking 3rd V50. Also sneaking under 40 minutes was Paul Moses with a time of 39:20 finishing 5th in the V50 category. Completing a good day for the V50’s was Adrian Moody with 44:50 and 7th in the category.
Doddington Place Gardens hosted it’s inaugural 5k and 10k races in perfect
conditions for running. The hilly trail course proved to be popular with those who entered. Returning to home territory, Rhian Shrimplin ran the 5k in a time of 25:29 finishing 4th lady. Anthony Brown was 13th overall with a time of 25:29. In the 10k event Tracey Calnan led home the ladies finishing 8th overall and 1st in her category with 52:07, Tracey was closely followed by training and racing partner Aurelio Morris with a time of 56:37 finishing 18th and 2nd in her category. It was a presidential performance by Ann Fidge with a impressive time of 1:04:54 taking the 1st female V65 prize.
Chris Costiff took on the Bedgebury 10k and finish 2nd lady and 1st vet with a time of 44:29. Sarah Taylor ran the 5k event and a fall at 4K did not stop Sarah from recording a very respectable time of 34:38. The hard work at the Tuesday night club sessions obviously paying off.
Losely Park in the Surrey hills hosted the Maverick 22k trail run. The muddy and hilly route proved to be a challenge, even for the group of off-road specialists that took part. Keith Lynn was first home with a time of 2:24:57. Not far behind was Steve Hickman in 2:32:46 taking 2nd in the V60 category. Lucy Johnstone enjoyed the conditions finishing with a time of 2:40:26.
The weather also offered some menace to the runners from A&D taking part in the half marathon and marathon at Bewl Water. Linda Jean Delport ran her second marathon of the year and the extremely challenging conditions did not stop Linda from running a very impressive time of 4:16:12. Stu Nunn took on the half marathon, on a surface not providing a great degree of traction, Stu’s hard persistence and dedication to his training was rewarded with a time of 1:58:16.
A run report would not be complete without a Rik Holden marathon to report. Rik completed 2 marathons over the weekend with a 3:51:54 time at the SVN VE Day event on Saturday then on Sunday completing the Great British challenge in 4:00:49.
The A&D ladies were out in force on Sunday at the Maidstone Riverside 10 mile race. In her first race for A&D Holly Cook made an impressive debut finishing 3rd lady with a time of 1:19:54. Hot on her tail was Emma Hanna in 4th place overall and winning her age category with a time of 1:20:40. Ailis Goddard was not to deterred by a stitch to be 5th lady home with a time of 1:24:39. Sandi Mortimer completed the magnificent team performance.
A hot and twisty Chatham maritime 10k proved to be quite a challenge for Adrian Moody and Adrian Beresford. Moody finishing with a time of 45:21 and club Captain Beresford working his way back from a long spell of injuries posted a time of 48:03.
