Saxon Shore Half Marathon – Sunday 16th June 2019
Sunday saw several club members compete in the Saxon Shore Half Marathon, running between Herne Bay and Whitstable. Harry Fleming was first home for the club 1hr 42min 26sec. John Beale and Adrian Beresford then crossed the finish line in 1.46.29. Sue Reader was next home for the club, followed by Hugh Scarlin in a PB time of 2.17.05. Running through injury, Sarah Taylor finished in 2.33.58.
Clifftop Challenge Marathon – Saturday 15th June 2019
Also on the Kent coast, Tracey Calnan and Aurelie Morris covered marathon distances in Saturday’s Clifftop Challenge. Starting from Lympne Castle, the hilly route took runners along sections of the Saxon Shore Way and North Downs. The pair finished in 5hr 4min 0sec.
East Kent Road Relays, Ashford – Tuesday 11th June 2019
Tuesday saw a record number of A&D runners turn out for the third race of the East Kent Road Relays series in Victoria Park. A total of sixty runners represented the club on home turf, each showing their mettle defending their positions in the standings.
In the A League, Senior Men put in determined efforts to finish third on the night, with Janusz Latala passing the opposing South Kent Harriers runner in the last half mile. The team not only maintained their position at fifth in the rankings but also narrowed the gap between this and third place down to a single point. Also standing their ground, V40 Men remain in second position, with Julius Samson showing marked improvement. Strong performances from Andrew Noble, Scotty Lynch and Paul Moses ensured V50 Men stayed at the top of their category; in a close fought battle Moses beat Folkestone contender by nine seconds. Ian Grundy, Mike Davis and Nigel Costiff formed the club’s first V60 Men’s team of the series, which placed fifth.
A League Senior Ladies remain in fifth place, with Sarah Homewood taking over a minute from her previous time on the course. V35 Ladies Elodie Paviot, Becks Macey and Tracey Calnan won their category on the night, closing the gap on the three leading clubs and climbing to fourth position in the standings. Consistently strong performances from the V45 Ladies kept them securely in fourth place.
In the B League, Senior Men remain in sixth place. Winning their category on the night, V40 Men stand strong at the top of the rankings. V50 also won their category and climbed to first place in the standings, with Carl Ireland running an outstanding leg. Will Whittington put in a brilliant run for the V50 C team, improving his course time by over two minutes.
B League Senior Ladies staunchly defended their position at the top of their category. Lisa Jones showed considerable improvement, with V35 Ladies now securely in first position. V45 Ladies placed fourth.
Victoria Park Summer 5K Series – Wednesday 12th June 2019
The first of four 5K races around Victoria park took place on Wednesday evening, with three club runners competing. Chris Boyce marked his return to racing, coming first overall in 20min 41sec. Darren Fagg finished in 22.41, making him fourth. Steve Hickman placed seventh with a time of 26.04.
