Berlin Marathon – Sunday 29th September 2019
Andrew Noble and James Booth travelled to Berlin for the city’s marathon on Sunday. Considered one of the fastest marathons in the world, the duo raced around the flat course to a momentous finish at Brandenburg Gate. The epitome of disciplined distance running, Noble kept a consistent pace over the distance, crossing the finishing line in 2.59.00. The race marked Noble’s second sub-three marathon time since achieving the feat in London earlier this year. Booth then completed the course in 3.30.33.
In the South East, A&D runners were tested by the weekend’s weather. Wet and windy conditions meant some courses were subject to last-minute alterations, whilst others warned of cancellation. Undeterred, A&D were well represented across the start lines, with admirable results to show for their efforts.
Three club runners took to the Kent Coast for the Folkestone Half Marathon on Sunday. The seafront course between Folkestone and Hythe meant runners felt the full force of the winds. Laurence Teeling placed 13th out of 454 runners in the field, with a time of 1.25.38. Paul Ridley was 38th in 1.36.03, whilst Essen Larsen placed 6th in her age category with a time of 1.51.49.
SVN Tolkien Challenge & SVN Battle of Britain Challenge – Saturday 28th & Sunday 29th September 2019
The weekend’s high winds also posed a particular challenge for competitors taking on the SVN Challenge events on the Kent coast. Closure of the sea-wall on Saturday meant that the Tolkien Challenge course was altered, taking runners along an undulating out-and-back loop through the Nature Reserve. Becky Hodgson covered half-marathon distance in 3.04.25. Sunday saw Hodgson return to the area for her second half-marathon of the weekend, at the Battle of Britain Challenge. Running under, up and over the White Cliffs, with headwinds in excess of 50mph, Hodgson persevered to finish in 3.28.22.
Chilham Castle Duathlon – Sunday 29th September 2019
Paul Moses finished sixth overall in Sunday’s Chilham Castle Sprint Duathlon. The event consisted of a 5K cross country run, a bike section curtailed by flooding on the day, and a final 2K run. Moses crossed the finish line in 1.08.24.
Ingvild Drake completed the Windsor Half Marathon in 1:59:07. The course featured flat sections, interspersed with hills, within Windsor’s Great Park.
