Brett Owler Winter Marathon, Half and 10K- Sunday 24th November 2019
A&D were well represented across the three distances at Sunday’s Owler Winter Marathon, Half and 10K. With long, muddy off-road sections sections, conditions underfoot were tough conditions. However, the club’s runners more than met the demands of each course.
Fresh from his team success at last weekend’s 666 trail run, the 10K race saw Paul Ridley (41.23) finish 4th overall and 1st in his age category. Similarly, Gill O’Connor was 1st in her age group and 4th lady, with a time of 52.04.
Despite a gruelling final mile, the Half Marathon course brought out the best in the A&D contingent. Marking a return to distance running, Scotty Lynch placed 5th overall and 1st V50 in 1.35.18. A&D’s ladies shone through over the half-marathon distance, with Linda-Jean Delport (1.42.43) and Essen Larsen (1.49.03) finishing 1st and 3rd Lady, respectively. Placing 3rd in her age group, Aurelie Morris was next home for the club in 2.00.24. Keith Lynn was next in 2.09.25, followed by Sarah Taylor in 2.55.16.
Two laps of mud and two grueling battles with ‘Heartbreak Hill’ were no match for Rik Holden and Massah Cooper. Marathon man Holden placed 6th overall and 1st in his age category with a time of 3.40.03; Cooper finished 2nd in her age category and 4th lady, with a time of 4.50.17.
Ashford Parkrun – Saturday 23rd November 2019
The weekly 5K around Ashford’s Victoria Park was teeming with A&D runners. Paul Ridley was 14th overall in 19.47, closely followed by Paul Moses in 20.01. Carl Ireland marked a Parkrun PB of 20.48, followed by Mark Attenborough n 21.03 and Elodie Paviot. Terry Sellen was next home for the club in 23.07, with Stuart Nunn (23.14) hot on his heels and John Fidge (26.20) finishing shortly after. Rachel Jenkins (28.20) finished 1st in her age category, followed by Ann Fidge (29.00). Susan Sutton achieved a PB by over 30s, with a time of 32.01. Lesley Moody (32.03) and Emma Jenkins (32.14) then crossed the finish line in quick succession. Becky Hodgson was next home for the club in 35.31, followed by Julie Foster in 41.42.
