The club had a large turnout for the Romney Marsh 10k on Sunday. Running along the flat quiet lanes around Romney marsh, the race this year was again run in hot conditions. First runner home for the club was Scotty Lynch in 10th place and 2nd vet in a time of 38:59. Jon Wells broke his PB as he was 11th in a time of 39:38. Robert Carpenter finished 27th in a time of 42:13 followed by Keith Haynes in 43:49. Rachel Grout collected a PB and was first in her age category as she came home in 48:34. Ingvild Firth finished in 51:57 and Toby Calnan in 53:01. Simon Jackson, running his first race for the club finished in 54:35, and Andrew Smith completed the course in 58:31.
Two members joined 15,000 other runners in the Great Newham London run which is a 10k run around the Olympic park and finishes inside the revamped Olympic stadium and across the same finish line that saw Mo Farah and Usain Bolt collect gold medals at the 2012 London Olympics. Slowly coming back from injury, Chris Valdus finished in an excellent time of 37:45. Kirsty Farrant continued her recent impressive improvement with a time of 58:42.
In the 5k event at the Ashford Summer series, Chris Boyce powered home to finish 4th in a time of 18:40. Meanwhile in the 10k event on the same night, Dean Bracken again dipped below 40 minutes as he finished 4th in a time of 39:32. Paul Moses was 7th in a time of 40:50.
