Four club members braved the December weather to run the Thanet Coastal 10 mile race last Sunday. Run along a course starting at Westgate-on-sea, through Margate to Foreness point, and back, Anthony Brown was the first runner home, as he battled the strong wind in the second half of the race to record a time of 70:41 and 23rd place. Rhian Shrimplin finished the race as the 21st lady in an excellent time of 86:08. Kate Williams ran a strong race to finish 90:54 and the 38th lady, and Deborah Hainsworth finished in a time of 95:06.
Two club runners took part in the 23rd running of the Turkey run 10k on the same day. This popular pre-Christmas off road 10k race attracted a large field of over 500 runners, who had to contend with some very muddy conditions to run through around the course in East Malling. Scott Lynch took the mud in his stride as he powered home to finish in an impressive 12th place and 3rd in his age group in a time of 44:03. Stu Nunn, after his strong run in the Brett Ashford Half marathon the previous Sunday, came home in 177th place in a time of 57:34.
Amanda Bashford completed her 30th and 31st marathons over the weekend. She ran the Waterloo Anniversary marathon on Saturday in 5:14:57 and then on Sunday ran the Saxon Shore Marathon in 4:55:36.
