Helen Weeden broke the club record for the longest distance run by a lady member in an ultra race when she completed the Wall Ultra race on Saturday. The Ultra race, which follows a 69 mile multi terrain route of Hadrian’s Wall, started in Carlisle early Saturday morning and finishing in the early hours of Sunday morning. The race had over 800 starters, but due to the tough nature of the race, only 529 managed to finish, with Helen finishing the course in a time of 19:19:11. She finished in 412th place overall, 60th female and 21st in her age category. Eddie Rodger knocked over 1hr 22mins from his previous best time for the Wall Ultra, as he finished the race in an excellent time of 16:28:46, which placed him 247th overall, 212th male, and 23rd in his age category.
At the latest Ashford Summer Series 10k race on Friday night, Daniel Green ran an excellent race to finish 4th overall, and finish as the first Vet40 male, coming home in a time of 37:34. Gill Pragnell ran a strong race to finish 10th overall, 2nd lady and the 1st Vet45 lady with a time of 44:24, with Victoria Pragnell finishing as the 4th lady in a time of 47:23.
In the 5k event the club’s runners had another successful night, with Robert Carpenter finishing in 2nd place overall and the 1st Vet40 male in a time of 19:38. Paul Moses took home the Vet50 male prize as he finished in 20:12, Gill O’Connor finished in 21:32 and came home as the first lady overall and the 1st Vet45 lady. Danyel Giles ran another personal best as she finished as the 2nd lady in a time of 22:33, with Christine Costiff close behind as the 3rd place lady finisher in 23:10. Stu Nunn ran a personal best as he finished 15th in a time of 23:46, Andrew Smith finished in 26:05, and Julie Foster ran a time of 27:55.
